Students learn about Math In The Real World

Patent attorney Greg Mayer spoke to WJHS students on April 4th about the interesting ways he has used math throughout his professional career.  He recounted how math helped him contest a lawsuit involving a medical device patent, calculate the stress concentration in the vicinity of rivets in F-15 aircraft structures, and write a patent directed to the rescue of a geosynchronous satellite from a useless orbit using the gravity of the moon.

Mr. Mayer’s visit was for the annual Math in the Real World series when students are introduced to how math comes into play for a different careers.
