On May 9th the Fine Arts Committee’s Rack*It Public Art Project culminated the year-long program with a bike tour of two newly installed artistic bike racks designed by 4th grader, Elle Linetsky and 5th grader, Nika Chuzhoy.
Despite cold and wet skies, we had over 60 community members gather for the unveilings of the “bird” bike rack at the Village Hall and bike the 3-mile safe-to-school route to the “Wilmette people” bike rack at the Community Recreation Center.
Many thanks to: all 6 schools’ Art Teachers for including the bike rack design in their Fall curriculum; Art professor, Shengcheng Xu; Metal Fabricator, Austin Bader; Village Manager, Tim Frenzer and Wilmette Park District Superintendent of Recreation, Kathy Bingham; Civics and Safety members Sylvie Legere and Susan Barton; Wilmette Police Department’s Commander Collins and the crossing guards; Cycling Advocates: Beth Drucker and Tim Perry; Documentary film maker, 7th grader, Jack Yonover; and the Sam Mikaelian Fine Arts Fund.
