The District 39 Educational Foundation Board voted on May 15th to approve a donation towards the Board of Education’s strategic planning initiative to outfit innovative classrooms in all six D39 schools. A total of $42,000 will be donated — $6,000 earmarked for each elementary school, $9,000 for Highcrest Middle School, and $9,000 for Wilmette Junior High School.
Along with the district funds and PTA/O funds, the D39 Educational Foundation is proud to contribute additional funding to help provide the necessary framework for improved classroom flexibility, student freedom, and individual choice by purchasing adjustable desks, tables, various seating options, and additional spatial solutions to support all learners. The innovative classroom environment positively impacts student’s learning outcomes, their willingness to perform, and their well being.
Becky Littman, Central School Principal told the Foundation,
On behalf of all school principals, we want to thank you for your generous donation funding our innovative learning environments. Your surprise left us all speechless! We are so excited to create the spaces to meet our students’ needs. We continue to be so thankful and impressed with your continued dedication to the students of District 39.”
As stipulated by the Foundation, each principal has two years to use the funds. Principals will present their proposals to the Foundation Executive Board for approval before the funding is awarded.
The D39 Educational Foundation supported the Learning Commons at each school in a similar manner and are proud to continue their support.
